"Sparks will fly at Connolly Park on Saturday afternoon when 2 of the top sides in SIRU, Albury Steamers and Wagga City clash and slug it out for early bragging rights." “Wagga City come out on top but the Annual SIRU 15-a-sid KO provides few clues to the 2013 Season’s main contenders.” Wagga City confirmed the view of some pundits that they are the team to beat this year when they defeated Wagga Waratahs 7 – 0 to win the final of the Annual SIRU Knock Out on Saturday afternoon. This means they have taken out all three local pre-season competitions.
In reality however there was little to glean from the day. The SIRU Premiers, Wagga Ag College only fielded a 3rd Grade Team. Their !st & 2nd XV were engaged later in the day in an inter-zone trial against the Orange City Club. Some of the other SIRU Clubs (including Griffith & Reddies) did not send a team to the Carnival and even those that came looked to be in an early stage of their preparation. |
